About this Site

May 20, 2009

My name is Drew Small, and I created this site on a commission from ALECC in the Spring of 2009. This page is in place to discuss and credit the design choices, techniques, and programs I have used. Because I do so only in the spirit of sharing, the information on this page should be taken as such, and does not represent the views, beliefs, practices, procedures, or committments of ALECC.

This site is standards compliant (Valid XHTML Strict, and CSS2), which simply means that it IS what it says it is: the coding matches the doctypes, all i's are dotted and t's crossed. This promotes a higher standard of coding, and should lead to pages being more consistently rendered across browsers and platforms--it doesn't always, but it should.

This site was created using Free and OpenSource Software, and so I give my thanks to the hackers and programmers who have contributed their hard work and idealistic dedication the that movement. I am capable and comfortable within both Windows and Mac configurations as well, but am currently enjoying the ease-of-use, performance, and accountability within Free and OpenSource Software. This site is also hosted on a Linux server with APACHE and PHP, two more debts of gratitude I owe to the F/OSS community.

I am indebted to the F/OSS design community as this site is based on a modified Creative Commons template designed by raykdesign. To compliment raykdesign's basic layout I have added context-specific header-images through suplimentary css files, a simple CMS based on compartmentalization and PHP Includes, several important but subtle design changes, a simple table to collect The Goose archive, and a number of classes to help control the text and images in the content of pages.
